French troops and Sahel uranium

French President Emmanuel Macron says he won’t reduce the number of troops deployed in Africa’s Sahel region despite pressure from home and abroad to do so.

Macron made the remarks after talks in February with the leaders of five Sahel countries. This week’s edition of Africa Today which is focusing on renewed efforts by France to tighten its grip on Africa’s Sahel region. We are asking, is France in the Sahel to combat terrorism or to exploit the region’s natural resources, especially uranium which it desperately needs to produce electricity?
