Political, economic and intellectual independence, would not be possible without the expansion of knowledge and science. Iran has made giant strides in medicine, nano-technology, nuclear energy, in defense and the production of missiles, in aerospace technology, and in heavy industries.
Iran ranks 4th rank in the world in terms of production of nanoscience technology, and 7th and 9th ranks in terms of biotechnology and aerospace industry respectively. Iran is naturally a country of abundance. But the ancient civilization had its day in antiquity. Modernity was of the west. Iran has tried to catch up, however. It's come a long way over past decades. But how far in international terms? Iran has been isolated by Western powers and therefore abandoned by their weaker allies, since the revolution. Economic and military sanctions have even bordered onto siege and genocide, given imports of essential items have also been hindered by US-imposed banking sanctions and secondary sanctions. So its only natural for Iran to take sole credit for whatever its achieved since 1979 and the war that followed shortly after. Thats the 8-year imposed war with Iraq.
