An Afghan judge has been shot dead in an ambush in the eastern city of Jalalabad.

The conflict-ridden country suffers from a wave of assassination.

Farid Khan, spokesman for Nangarhar province’s police, said Judge Hafizullah, who goes by just one name, came under fire as he headed to work in a motor trishaw in the troubled city on Wednesday.

On January 17, heavily armed militants gunned down two female judges working for the Supreme Court in the capital Kabul.

In another attack on Wednesday, a policeman was killed and three others were wounded in Kabul by a bomb attached to their vehicle.

Separately, four security personnel were killed overnight by a car bomb at a military base in the restive southern province of Uruzgan.

Afghan and US officials have blamed the string of assassinations on the Taliban militants.

Since September, the Afghan government has been negotiating with the Taliban to find an end to years of bloodshed in the country.

Insecurity and violence, however, continue to take a heavy toll across Afghanistan.
