Afghans are a nation with a long history of resistance against various enemies. Since the 19th century, Afghanistan has been invaded by different armies. The colonial army of Britain, the red army of the Soviet Union and the black army of terrorism along with its international backers all tried to break the will of Afghans.
As experts say, the existence of a resistance spirit among Afghans has helped them to make contacts with other resistance figures beyond the Afghan borders. Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani was one such figures who was interested in having ties with anti-terrorism and anti-hegemony resistance movements mainly across the middle east and some other Asian countries including Afghanistan.
Many others also believe that the charismatic personality of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani revives for Afghans the memory of Afghanistan’s national hero, Ahmad Shah Massoud. It becomes more interesting when you understand that both,Soleimani and Massoud had friendly ties before Massoud’s assassination only two days ahead of the 9/11 attacks.
Let’s not forget that many here in Afghanistan believe the slaying of lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was leading regional resistance against terrorists, is not an end point in the fight against terror. Rather his assassination has made the resistance front all the more determined in its campaign against terrorists.
