A new poll has revealed that both Democrat and Republican voters in the United States believe there is a possibility that the 2020 presidential election will be rigged.
Thirty-seven percent of Republican registered voters and 36 percent of Democratic voters in the Sept. 21-22 Hill-HarrisX said the 2020 presidential election will probably be rigged, The Hill reported.
Meanwhile, 40 percent Independents said the election will be rigged.
Thirty-eight percent of voters overall said they believe the vote would probably be manipulated, but 17 percent said it will definitely be rigged.
While both Democrats and Republicans may agree on the possibility of a rigged election,
Mallory Newall, director of research at Ipsos, said the reasons behind the Democrat and Republican agreement on the possibility of a rigged election vary.
"Democrats tend to be more concerned about voter suppression and foreign interference," Newall told Hill.TV.
"Republicans on the other hand, tend to be more concerned about voter fraud and how voting by mail can impact that," she added.
Trump slams ‘voter fraud’ at the debate
During the debate with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Tuesday night, Trump expressed concerns about possible voter fraud during the November 3 election.
“As far as the ballots are concerned, it's a disaster. A solicited ballot, OK, solicited is OK. You're soliciting, you're asking, they send it back, you send it back. I did that. If you have an unsolicited -- they're sending millions of ballots all over the country. There is fraud, they found them in creeks, they found some with the name Trump, just happened to have the name Trump just the other day in a wastepaper basket. They're being sent all over the place. They sent a two and a Democrat area, they sent out 1,000 ballots. Everybody got two ballots. This is going to be a fraud like you've never seen,” Trump said.
He added that “they cheat. They cheat. Hey, they found ballots in a wastepaper basket three days ago, and they all had the name -- military ballots; they were military. They all had the name Trump on them.”
Vox website in recent article explained how Trump’s accusations of vote-rigging and his efforts to sabotage mail voting could result in an election night nightmare in the United States.
The article explained that by creating chaos in the upcoming presidential election, Trump aims to tilt the results in his own favor.
To create chaos through sabotaging mail voting, which is said to be a common practice among Democratic voters, Trump last month encouraged his supporters to vote twice, once in person and once by mail.
When asked about the security of mail-in votes in an interview last month, Trump said: “Let them send it in and let them go vote. And if the system is as good as they say it is then obviously they won’t be able to vote” in person.
