Trudeau at loss for words on Trump's reaction to protests
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau remained silent for more than 20 seconds during a press conference in Ottawa on Tuesday when asked to comment on US President Donald Trump's dealing with George Floyd's protesters across the US.
"We all watch in horror and consternation what's going on in the United States. It is a time to pull people together, but it is a time to listen, it is time to learn what injustice is despite progress over years and decades," Trudeau said after a long pause.
"But it is a time for us as Canadians to recognize that we, too, have our challenges that Black Canadians and racialized Canadians face discrimination as a lived reality every single day," he continued.
The US President Donald Trump has come under criticism for deploying military and for allowing to use tear gas and rubber bullets against protesters in Washington, where he posed for a photograph with a bible outside of a nearby church on Monday.
Violent protests have taken place all across the United States since the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis last week.
