US: Venezuelan govt. threatening Guaido's life

Amid the hostile policy and sanctions that the United States is implementing against the socialist-ruled Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington holds President Maduro and those around him responsible for the safety and welfare of Juan Guaido.
The senior US diplomat claimed that the Venezuelan government has been threatening the life of opposition leader Guaido, stressing that retaliation from Washington will take place if something bad happens to him.
Pompeo's statement comes after Guaido said that violent groups, allegedly related to Maduro's socialist party, have tried to attack him. Guaido insists the Maduro's administration is developing a violent plan to eliminate him.
From the government side, officials say that Guaido's allegations are completely unfounded.
Experts also describe Guaido's words as a desperate attempt to encourage the US to attack Venezuela.
The US government has repeatedly warned that all options are on the table if a further crisis occurs in Venezuela.
Although Juan Guaidó says his life is being threatened, the Venezuelan government denies the allegation. Caracas claims the US-backed politician is crying wolf in order to restore his falling popularity in the political arena.
