Violence broke out in Hong Kong on Wednesday over a controversial extradition law.
The planned legislature would allow authorities in Hong Kong to hand over suspects to mainland China for trial. The measure is not so liked in Hong Kong. The citys legislature was the focal point of the protests which turned ugly. Police resorted to tear gas to disperse the protesters. The furious demonstrators, however, refused to leave.
Protest organizers say the extradition law could be used by Beijing to track the political dissenters and bring them back to mainland China. Theyre also concerned that the bill, which will cover Hong Kong residents and foreign and Chinese nationals living or traveling through the city, could threaten the rule of law.
