Literacy in Iran after 1979 Islamic Revolution

Before the victory of 1979 Islamic Revolution, only about 47 percent of Iranians were literate. After the revolution, the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini ordered the formation of “Literacy Movement Organization." This, along with strenuous efforts by government officials, has put Iran among the countries with the highest literacy rates in the world.
