Palestinian policy

The Palestine Liberation Organization terminates all security and economic agreements with Israel. The decision was made during the 30th session of the Palestinian Central Council which kicked off in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Sunday. Palestinian officials pledged not to recognize Israel as long as it does not recognize Palestine. The Council added that an independent state of Palestine must be created with 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital. Palestinian officials then promised to continue their resistance by whatever means possible. The announcement by the Palestinian Central Council comes amid Israel’s growing expansionist policies with the United States offering an all-out support.

US border deployment

The Pentagon is planning to deploy more military troops to the southern US border with Mexico to stop a caravan of Central American migrants. O'Shaughnessy added that the military assets will harden security along priority points of entry. The senior general underlined that the reinforcement units have in fact been authorized with armed gear. US officials had initially said about 800 active-duty troops would be sent to provide assistance to local law enforcement. President Donald Trump has warned that the military is needed to face this national emergency. The US military deployment to the border is in line with Trump’s zero tolerance immigration policy. During his presidential campaign, he had also pledged to build a wall along the US-Mexico border.

Ill-fated Indonesia jet had technical problem

The CEO of Indonesia’s Lion Air says the company’s doomed airplane had a technical problem a day before it crashed into the Java Sea. Sirait said the airline could not prevent the plane from operating unless the manufacturer company, Boeing, called for it to be grounded. The Boeing 737 Max, vanished from radar 13 minutes after taking off from the Indonesian capital Jakarta and plunged into the sea moments after. All 189 passengers and crew aboard the ill-fated jet are feared dead as authorities have no hope of finding any survivors. Search and rescue workers are working round the clock to find the bodies of the victims. They’ve already recovered some remains of the bodies.

US-China trade dispute

The US is reportedly preparing to impose tariffs on all remaining Chinese imports if talks between the leaders of the two countries fail in December. Bloomberg has cited unnamed sources as saying that Washington has made no decision so far but a new list of tariffs is being drawn up. Sources said the measures could be taken if President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Shi Jin-ping failed to agree on easing a trade war which is already spiraling out of control. Trump has already imposed tariffs on 250 billion dollars worth of Chinese goods, and China has responded with retaliatory duties on 110 billion dollars of American products.

Muslims marking Arba’een

Millions of Muslims are commemorating the Day of Arba’een, which marks 40 days after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Pilgrims, many of them Iranians, have arrived in the Iraqi city of Karbala to take part in the annual gathering. Thousands of Iraqi soldiers and special police forces have been deployed to protect the pilgrims. Arba’een is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Imam Hussein was martyred along with dozens of his companions during the battle of Karbala more than thirteen centuries ago.
