EU lacks political will to preserve JCPOA: Activist

There is no indication that the European Union has the political will to take the necessary steps in order to preserve the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), says an activist.

“Up to now we have seen great statements come out of the European Union when it comes to their commitment to standing by the JCPOA and the importance of standing by the JCPOA, but we have seen little action designed to ensure that businesses will in fact be able to do business with Iran once the second round of US unilateral sanctions kick in this month,” Barry Grossman, an international lawyer and peace activist, told Press TV in an interview on Monday.

The activist’s comments came after Iran’s nuclear chief said the country has built a highly-advanced hall meant to host manufacturing of modern centrifuges.

Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said on Sunday the facility has been built on the orders of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

“It is not surprising that Iran is moving forward and I would hope that EU leaders will take this as a heads-up in terms of what lies in store if they do not do a whole lot more,” Grossman added.
