Conditional talks with Pyongyang

The White House says the US president will not meet with the North Korean leader unless Pyongyang takes concrete actions including on denuclearization. Sanders appeared to contradict Trump who said in a Tweet on Thursday that meeting with North Korea’s Kim Jung-un is already being planned. The US president added that all sanctions and maximum pressure will remain in place until the two sides clinch an agreement. Meanwhile, South Korea’s national security advisor says Kim is ready to stop nuclear and missile tests to allow for the talks but Pyongyang has not confirmed the position.

Moving militants from Ghouta

The first batch of foreign-backed militants and their families has left a besieged enclave in the eastern fringes of Syria’s capital Damascus. Our Syria correspondent Mohammad Ali updates us on the situation in the battered Damascus suburb of eastern Ghouta.

UK-Saudi deadly deal

The UK is set to sell dozens of advanced warplanes to Saudi Arabia amid concern over the Persian Gulf kingdom's deadly war against Yemen. The British government approved the sale of 48 Typhoon jets to Saudi Arabia on the last day of a visit by Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman. The preliminary agreement is yet to be finalized. UK Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson said the sale would increase security in the Middle East and boost British industry and jobs. The deal has provoked criticism from rights groups with Amnesty international warning that it just adds fuel to a humanitarian fire in Yemen. The head of Save the Children also said Riyadh is targeting Yemeni kids with a growing sense of impunity. Nearly fourteen-thousand Yemenis, mostly civilians have been killed since the onset of Saudi Arabia’s onslaught in March 2015.

US hostage standoff

A day-long hostage situation at a veterans’ home in the US state of California has come to an end with police confirming the death of the gunman and three hostages. Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect or the three women who were killed, but said the victims were workers for a program that treats veterans for post-traumatic stress disorder. Earlier, authorities said they hadn’t had contact with the gunman for nearly 8 hours after he exchanged gunfire with a deputy and took the women hostage at the largest veterans’ home in the United States. Investigators are yet to determine a motive.

Lebanon elections

Nearly 1,000 candidates have registered to run in Lebanon’s first parliamentary elections in nine years. People from different political factions and civil society groups as well as independent Individuals hope to gain a parliamentary seat. Press TV’s Beirut correspondent Rana Aladdin reports.

West Bank funeral

Clashes have erupted between Israeli forces and Palestinian protesters in the occupied West Bank. Protesters hurled stones and burning objects at Israeli soldiers in the city of al-Khalil, also known as Hebron. The unrest erupted after a disabled 24-year-old Palestinian man was shot in the chest by Israeli forces during clashes in Al-Khalil on Friday. Mohammed Zain al-Jabari succumbed to his wounds later in hospital. The Palestinian health ministry says al-Jabari was disabled. According to the Israeli military, the victim had been holding a firebomb when he was shot. A funeral procession was held for him on Friday evening.
