Iran deadly quake

Iran’s president pays a visit to the earth quake-stricken areas of the country. Hassan Rouhani has pledged to spare no effort to help those affected by the natural disaster. Rouhani also thanked the people of Iran, who stood by their affected fellow countrymen in the country’s western province of Kermanshah. He expressed his gratitude to rescue teams, saying water and electricity were restored in most parts of the quake-hit areas. The Iranian government has declared Tuesday a day of national mourning after a powerful seven-point-three-magnitude earthquake hit the region along the country’s western border with Iraq. At least 430 people have been confirmed dead with more than 7400 others wounded.

Qatar slams Saudi bloc

Qatar’s Emir says Persian Gulf Arab states that imposed sanctions against Doha are not willing to reach a solution to the crisis. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Aal-e-Thani said despite the imposed embargo, Qatar has managed to defeat attempts to disable the nation. Sheikh Tamim also accused the Saudi-led Arab states of trying to deprive Qatar of hosting the soccer World Cup in 2022. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, as well as Egypt cut their ties with Qatar back in June, accusing it of supporting terrorism. They imposed economic sanctions as well as travel and transport bans on Qatar and its nationals.

Rohingya Muslims plight

An attempt to white wash crimes against humanity: That’s how rights groups have reacted to a recent statement by Myanmar’s military regarding its involvement in the deadly crackdown on Rohingya Muslims. On Monday, in what has been described as the most forceful denial yet, the military said its forces have committed no atrocities against the minority group in Rakhine state. The statement comes in direct contradiction with countless reports of massacres, rape, looting and the burning of hundreds of Rohingya villages by Myanmar’s army and Buddhist mobs.

‘US supporting militants’

Russia has once again accused the United States of pretending to fight terrorism in the Middle East, saying Washington provides de-facto cover for Daesh in Syria. Russia’s Defense Ministry says the US Air Force has tried to hinder Russian strikes on Daesh positions in the Syrian town of Bu Kamal. The ministry said Washington is only imitating an uncompromising fight against terrorism. Moscow has time and again questioned the nature of US tactics in Syria and Iraq. Last month, Russia said the US let terrorists cross the Iraqi border and boost Daesh’s defense lines in the Syrian province of Dayr al-Zawr. It also said the territory surrounding a US military base near Syria’s border with Jordan had created a safe haven for terrorists.

Saudi blockade of Yemen

The United Nations has condemned the Saudi-led coalition for failing to lift its blanket blockade of Yemeni ports and airports. Head of UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Jamie McGoldrick, says international bodies don’t have access to the Red Sea ports of Salif and Hudayda. The two western ports are close to Yemen’s populated areas which are in dire need of Humanitarian aid. McGoldrick says the continuation of the Saudi-siege would undo all efforts to fight the Cholera epidemic, adding that seven million Yemenis are in famine-like conditions. The UN official's comments come despite an announcement by the Saudi-led coalition that it would remove the ban on Yemeni ports. The coalition imposed a total blockade after the Yemeni army fired a ballistic missile at Riyadh on November 4.
