Here is a brief look at Press TV newsroom's headlines from 09:00 GMT to 17:00 GMT, Nov. 1, 2017.

Supporting Palestinian cause

The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has urged all Muslim countries to strongly champion the cause of Palestine. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the remark in a message to the Second Global Conference for Union of Resistance Scholars in Lebanon read out by his representative Ayatollah Mohsen Araki. He said QUOTE the heavy and unforgettable responsibility of standing up for the cause of Palestine rests with the entire Muslim world. The Leader said political, clerical, and scientific elite together with officials of Islamic states shoulder the most important part of this responsibility. Ayatollah Khamenei said all those who feel responsible should press ahead with fighting the aggressor Israeli regime through different means. The conference revolves around the cause of Palestine, efforts to secure the liberation of occupied territories and countering Israeli atrocities.

Tehran trilateral summit

Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, has arrived in Tehran to hold talks with his Iranian and Russian counterparts at a trilateral summit. Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is also set to touch down in the Iranian capital to join the meeting. The two heads of state will discuss various issues with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Top on the agenda will be cooperation transit and energy as well as the war in Syria. Aliyev and Putin are also expected to meet the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution. This is the second such summit. The first one took place in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku last year.

War on Yemen

The relentless Saudi aggression against Yemen takes more lives amid international calls to stop the atrocities. In the latest attack, Saudi warplanes targeted a market in the northwestern province of Sa’ada, killing at least 26 civilians. Another attack in the province targeted a car, killing two people. More than 13,000 people have been killed since Riyadh began its military campaign against Yemen in 2015. The bloodshed prompted the United Nations earlier this month to blacklist the Arab kingdom for killing and maiming children. Other human rights organizations have also voiced concern over the high number of civilian casualties as a result of the Saudi war against Yemen.

‘Israel enemy of all nations’

A senior member of Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, says Israel is the enemy of all the countries in the region. Sheikh Naim Qassem was addressing the second Global Conference for Union of Resistance Scholars in Beirut. Qassem also slammed Britain and the US for creating and protecting Israel. He said with the support of London and Washington, Israel continues to threaten to launch wars. The political leader of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, also addressed the conference. Ismail Haniyeh said Israel does not have a future in the occupied territories. Regarding the recently-inked Palestinian reconciliation deal, Haniyeh also praised the Palestinian reconciliation deal and reiterated that the unity government will strongly resist the Israeli regime.

Palestinian unity deal

Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has handed over the Rafah border crossing to the Palestinian Authority as part a reconciliation deal between the two factions. The Palestinian Authority’s top official for border crossings, Nazmi Muhanna, formally received control of the crossing with Egypt from his Hamas counterpart. Hamas officials say Palestinian Authority employees will resume full control of the checkpoint. The handover comes after the two factions signed a deal last month to end a ten-year split between them. Under the deal, the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority will take control of the Gaza Strip from Hamas.

Iran hails anti-terrorism fight

The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has hailed the cooperation between Iran and Russia in the fight against terrorist groups in Syria. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the defeat of the US-led coalition supporting terrorists in Syria is undeniable. The leader said the solution of the Syria crisis requires continued cooperation between Tehran and Moscow. Ayatollah Khamenei noted that the Syrian people are the ultimate decision makers regarding their country’s issues. He urged Damascus to be impervious to any foreign pressure. The leader was speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Tehran. Putin said the cooperation between Tehran and Moscow has made a breakthrough, stressing that the fight against terrorism must continue.

Tehran summit

The presidents of Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan have held a summit in Tehran, stressing the importance of tri-lateral cooperation in the field of economy. In a joint press conference in Tehran, the Iranian president called for facilitation of economic cooperation among Tehran, Moscow and Baku. He also stressed the importance of using local currencies in economic transactions among the three countries. The Russian president said the three countries should cooperate in the field of energy. Vladimir Putin also added that Iran and Russia have had fruitful cooperation regarding Syria. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev also noted that the cooperation between the three countries can boost peace and security in the region. The three sides signed the Tehran Declaration after the trilateral summit.

Catalan independence tensions

Catalonia's ousted president Carles Puigdemont says he will not return to Spain to face rebellion charges at a top criminal court on Thursday. His Belgian lawyer Paul Bekaert, who made the announcement, says Puigdemont may be detained if he returns to the country. He says they are still waiting for further reactions from Spanish authorities and that his client has no intention of seeking asylum in Belgium. Last week, the Madrid government dismissed the Catalan president and over a dozen members of his former administration after the region declared independence from Spain. The Spanish prosecutor is seeking to charge the group with rebellion, sedition and misuse of public funds. They could be sentenced to 30 years in prison if found guilty.
