Britain profiting from Saudi war on Yemen: Analyst

Press TV has conducted an interview with Jim W. Dean, a political analyst, on the role of Britain in the continuation of the Saudi war on Yemen.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: The Saudi planes continue to roar over Yemen, continue to pound. We’re talking about more than 8,000 people that have been killed, the majority of them actually civilians, and still a whole lot is not being said out of these so-called Western capitals, the protectors of liberty. And as a matter of fact, we saw recently the United States actually supporting Saudi efforts in Yemen. What has to be done to stop this onslaught that is taking place? And at the end of the day, do you think that your country is actually responsible for it?

Dean: Well, everybody who’s involved in backing the Saudis on this without putting any conditions on it whatsoever can easily be blamed for basically keeping the fires of war going. But there has been some bright spots, I mean, we have to work hard. I mean, you mentioned the destruction of one of the... things I checked before I came on, we’ve had 130 hospital and medical facilities bombed by the Saudis since they started. So, we’re finally getting some war crimes issues on the table now, which we haven’t gotten before. The UN is finally stepped in, they did their report. We have action now in Britain, some of The Telegraph and The Guardian are writing stories that Britain really is at war with Yemen now, because they’re supplying not only weapons but they’re supplying British advisors to help the Saudis conduct the war.

As their weak excuse was... ‘We’re not actually picking the targets; we’re just like mid-level type people.’ And that was one of the most pitiful excuses I’ve ever heard. The British are there because they’ve sold six billion dollars worth of weapons. And this is the root of evil in this war here. As there’s too many people profiting from it who are going on that they really don’t want it to stop despite the cost.
