Iran captain Teymourian departs Qatari Umm Salal, now on Esteghlal radar

Andranik Teymourian of Iran celebrates qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup following the 2014 World Cup Qualifier match between South Korea and Iran at Munsu Cup Stadium in Ulsan, South Korea, on June 18, 2013.

Iranian footballer Andranik Teymourian has put an end to his appearance at the Qatari professional association football team Umm Salal, which plays at the first level Qatar Stars League.

The 32-year-old, who captains Iran men’s national football team, parted company with the Doha-based sport club only six months after he signed with Umm Salal on July 7, 2015.

There are reports that relations between Teymourian and the club head coach Bulent Uygun soured over the time, and this led to Ando’s departure. The Iranian had 14 appearances in the Qatari side, but scored no goals.

Meanwhile, Teymourian has been linked with a move to Tehran-based soccer club Esteghlal.

“Esteghlal welcomes Teymourian back to his home. We are seeking to build up our team, and Ando can assist our team until the end of the season,” Esteghlal coach Parviz Mazloomi said.

Teymourian played for three English clubs, including Bolton and Fulham in the Premier League as well as Barnsley in the Football League Championship from 2006 to the end of 2010.

Teymourian signed a contract with Esteghlal in mid-July 2011, and made his debut for club against Isfahan-based Foolad Mobarakeh Sepahan football club.

On July 18, 2013, Teymourian returned to Esteghlal after signing a three-year contract.

He scored a 40-yard goal in a match against the Thai professional football club Buriram United on August 12, 2014. Esteghlal won the fixture 2-1.

This is while Andranik's elder brother Serjik Teymourian, who is now his agent, has announced that “Ando has three offers from Qatar. His priority is to play outside Iran, and does not consider Iranian club offers.
