Brits call for banning Trump from entering UK

Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump

A growing number of Britons have signed a petition calling for banning the US Republican Presidential Hopeful Donald Trump from entering the UK after he suggested all Muslims should be barred from entering America.

The online petition says: “The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. If the United Kingdom is to continue applying the ‘unacceptable behavior’ criteria to those who wish to enter its borders, it must be fairly applied to the rich as well as poor, and the weak as well as powerful.”

The number has just surpassed 300,000. You can check the latest figure here.

Earlier, British Prime Minister David Cameron criticized Turmp’s remarks calling them divisive.

A poll conducted by YouGov suggested that the majority of Brits are opposed to Trump’s anti-Muslim policy.

Trump was also criticized by Scotland Yard.  “We would not normally dignify such comments with a response, however on this occasion we think it’s important to state to Londoners that Mr Trump could not be more wrong,” a statement released by Scotland Yard said.

This comes as Finance Minister George Osborne told lawmakers that Trump's views were "nonsense," but said it would be wrong to "ban presidential candidates."

Answering questions in the House of Commons, Osborne said "the best way to confront the views of someone like Donald Trump is to engage in a robust democratic argument with him about why he is profoundly wrong."

Trump’s remarks were made after a mass shooting at a Californian care home, carried out by a couple who the FBI say had been radicalized.

Even after a global backlash, Trump defended his comments, saying they were no worse than the actions of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who imprisoned over 110,000 people in government camps after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941.
