Former British MP George Galloway says that British Prime Minister David Cameron’s remarks regarding the new opposition Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, are “absurd and ridiculous,” Press TV reports.
On Sunday, Cameron labeled newly elected Corbyn and the Labour Party as a “threat to our national security, our economic security and your family's security.”
During an interview with Press TV, Galloway said, “The comments made by the prime minster were unworthy of a British prime minster about the leader of British opposition.”
He added that Cameron and the government of the “Tony Blair era” are the people who are endangering Britain’s national security and not Corbyn. “Those are the people who have made our country vulnerable and hated in many many parts of the world.”
Corbyn stormed to election victory on Saturday, beating his rivals to take almost 60 percent of the party votes. During his campaign, he often drew a huge number of supporters thanks to his anti-austerity message.
Corbyn’s policies include spending more on public services like schools and hospitals, scrapping nuclear weapons, and renationalizing industries like the railways, according to reports.
During his three decades in parliament, Corbyn has spent much of his time championing causes such as the Stop the War Coalition, campaigning against the private finance initiative, and supporting peace efforts in the Middle East.
He is a member of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, regularly campaigning against Israel’s wars on Gaza and ‘the Israeli Apartheid.’
Despite four months of relentless negative propaganda against Corbyn, he "turned out to be enormously popular wining more votes, many more votes that Tony Blair did when he became the leader of the Labour Party,” Galloway noted.
