Unexploded WWII bomb found in east London
An unexploded bomb thought to be leftover from World War II has been uncovered at an east London construction site.
Building contractors found the 200-kilogram-plus device while working at the site on Temple Street in the district of Bethnal Green on Monday.
Over 130 people living and working within 100 meters of the discovery site have been evacuated and told to stay away for 24 hours.
“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid this area where possible. Significant traffic disruption is expected,” said a statement released by Scotland Yard.
Military staff from the Royal Logistics Corps were expected to "work through the night to stabilize and defuse the bomb,” said the Ministry of Defense.
"As with previous incidents, it is important that people follow any advice given by the police,” said a British army spokesperson. "The military Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams have extensive experience with these situations, having operated in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Northern Ireland."
