Press TV has interviewed Bruce Katz, co-president of the Palestinian & Jewish Unity, in Montreal, to discuss International Quds Day, which coincides this year with the first anniversary of the 50-day Israeli invasion of Gaza during last summer.
The following is a rough transcription.
Press TV: As we just mentioned, this International Quds Day is falling on the first anniversary of the 50-day war on Gaza by Israel. How significant do you think that is?
Katz: I think that the attack on Gaza last summer has absolutely galvanized the Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions movement everywhere in the world. As a matter of fact, it has never been as strong as it is at this point of time.
Also, I think that intransigence of Netanyahu coalition, the calculated brutality with which they launched the attack against Gaza last year, which I remind you that is most definitely a war crime, that has opened the world’s eyes to what Israeli apartheid is really all about and given that fact, given the breathing conscience on part of the people of the world, as I have said before the BDS movement at this point of time is irreversible.
It was against the South African apartheid regime when it was irreversible and political classes everywhere had to face that reality and they are beginning to face that reality even in the West now.
Press TV: As this International Quds Day gets underway on Friday, what kind of a message do you think it is sending Israel? How do you think Israel is interpreting it as the world public opinion is clearly against it?
Katz: I think that there is nothing to be done with the current Netanyahu coalition. I said before that the only possibility to move forward is a regime change in Tel Aviv, and nevertheless the fact that the boycott movement is where it is at the present moment I think is going to cause Israel’s political class, outside of the Netanyahu coalition, there is no hope in that, but Israel’s political class I believe is now going to have to reevaluate its policies towards the Palestinian people and it is going to have to face the new reality. And the new reality is as I have said an irreversible BDS movement which is gaining more momentum on a daily basis.
