At least one civilian has been killed and two others injured in two separate mortar attacks by foreign-sponsored militants against residential areas in Syria’s western city of Homs.
A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the casualties occurred when a number of mortar shells landed close to al-Baath University and in the Akrima neighborhood of the city, located 162 kilometers (101 miles) north of the capital, Damascus, on Thursday, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.
The projectiles also caused damage to several houses and buildings at the residential areas.
Foreign-sponsored militants frequently carry out bomb attacks and launch mortar as well as rocket rounds across Syrian cities and towns since conflict broke out in the Arab country more than four years ago.
On May 31, at least 12 civilians were killed and a number of others injured after Takfiri terrorist groups fired rockets on Aleppo, situated 355 kilometers (220 miles) north of Damascus.
Syria has been suffering from a deadly crisis fueled by Takfiri groups since March 2011. The conflict has reportedly claimed more than 222,000 lives up until now.
The violence has also forced over 3.8 million Syrians to take refuge in neighboring countries, namely Jordan and Lebanon. More than 7.2 million others have been displaced within Syria, according to the United Nations.
