On Saturday over 20-thousand Italians gathered in Rome's People's Square to attend an anti-corruption demonstration called "The night of honesty".

The initiative was organized by the anti-establishment Five Star Movement in an attempt to denounce graft and corruption that steals from Italy, billions of euros every year.Demonstrators were angry over high level of corruption in the country.

Bribery and kickbacks in public and business life cost Italy over 60 billion Euros every year. According to a 2014 EU report, the link between politics and organized crime is one of the top key factors responsible for Italy's corruption rate. The other factor is said to be lack of professional integrity among national and local representatives.

According to the Five star Movement "The night of honesty" demonstration was also a way to highlight the mafia scandal that seriously shook the Rome's faith in its leaders last December.
The so -called Mafia Capital scandal involved mafia gangsters, corrupt politicians and a former terrorist who made millions in Rome by exploiting migrants and gypsies.
