'US violating international law, going further down the wrong road': Analyst
Journalist and political analyst, John Bosnitch says there is no possibility that the US can force its demands on Iran, arguing that Washington must acknowledge Tehran’s position that the Strait of Hormuz is part of Iran’s sovereign territory.
He says sovereignty is non-negotiable and that Iran must assert and enforce its sovereign rights, including by notifying ship charterers and operators. Otherwise, he argues, Iran could be seen as ceding those rights, potentially allowing them to be challenged later. He maintains that Iran is acting fully in accordance with international law.
The analyst further notes that the US has taken the wrong course and is compounding its mistakes rather than acknowledging them, describing the US actions, including unprovoked war and attacks on civilian sites, as war crimes, and noting that the US's threat or use of force to try to settle political disputes violates the UN Charter.
He concludes that Washington is now attempting to assert sovereignty on the other side of the world, despite its loss of control there.
