Tehran backs regional security
Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has hailed China's approach to regional security in West Asia. Ghalibaf, who also serves as Iran's special representative for China affairs, said China's emphasis on fostering common security reflects a principle that Iran has long championed. He has pointed out that true stability can only come through a new security architecture by the regional countries and said that Iran stands ready to play its part.
Iran slams debt-for-service plan
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has criticized a proposal to use student loan and credit card debt to recruit indebted Americans for the war with Iran. Esmaeil Baqaei made the remarks in a post on X, referring to an article published by Israeli media that discussed the idea of using student loan and credit card debt as a means of recruiting Americans for military service. Baqaei questioned why American men and women should be offered debt relief in exchange for fighting and potentially dying in a war that, he said, Israel wants to continue and expand. He slammed those behind the proposal for using the lives and tax money of Americans to fight someone else’s war. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman also urged Americans not to allow their children to become the soldiers or financial backers of a war they never chose, describing it as an illegal war.
Russia-Ukraine war
Ukraine has reported a fresh Russian drone strike targeting the Security Service headquarters in the capital Kiev. According to Kiev mayor, heavy smoke rose from the site of the drone strike that left five people injured. Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has condemned the attack, saying that the drone was aimed directly at the office of the Security Service chief. The attack followed overnight strikes on other regions, including Odesa. At least a dozen people were injured in two separate attacks against the capital Kiev on Thursday. Meanwhile, a Ukrainian strike on Thursday killed four people, including two medical personnel in Russia’s border region of Belgorod. According to local officials, three civilians also lost their lives in drone strikes in separate districts of Donetsk region. The exchange of fire comes as the US envoys are expected to visit Kiev and Moscow over the weekend in an effort to revive negotiations aimed at ending the war.
