Attacks on Iran reflect US’s commitment-violating nature: Tehran

Iran says renewed US aerial assaults on the country demonstrate that reneging on promises is part of the terrorist regime’s nature.

In a statement on Sunday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the US strikes on several monitoring and surveillance facilities on the country’s southern coast in the early hours of the day.

It said that the brutal attacks are a clear violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter, as well as a flagrant breach of Article 1 of the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the US.

“These attacks show that the US regime does not place the slightest value or credibility on its commitments, and that breaking promises is part of this regime’s nature,” it added.

The ministry also reminded the UN chief and the Security Council of their responsibility regarding international peace and security.

It further stressed Iran's determination to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity against US military aggression, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The US bombed Iran for a second day under the pretext of responding to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy's confronting a trespassing vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC delivered a “decisive response” to the enemy by launching a large-scale missile and drone operation against eight US military installations in the region.

It said maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz falls under Iran's responsibility pursuant to the Pakistan-mediated MoU.

“Henceforth, vessels found to be in violation will be dealt with more firmly than before,” it noted, warning of a “crushing response” to any future aggression by the enemy.

On July 17, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his American counterpart Donald Trump remotely signed the MoU, which brings about a permanent end to the illegal US-Israeli war of aggression against the Islamic Republic.

The 14-point deal, which calls for a permanent end to hostilities across all fronts, includes a commitment from both countries to hold further talks on a final agreement in the next 60 days.

Last week, high-level Iranian and American delegations held talks in Switzerland on the implementation of the MoU.
