Fidan: ‘Israel cannot live without an enemy’ and seeks to declare Turkey as one

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan says Israel “cannot live without an enemy” and the incumbent cabinet led by Benjamin Netanyahu is now seeking to declare the Ankara government as its new enemy.

"…Israel cannot live without an enemy," Fidan said in an interview with the official Anadolu news agency published on Monday.

It does not come down to only the Netanyahu cabinet, the Turkish minister said. Some figures in the opposition, he added, are also seeking to declare Turkey as the new enemy.

“This is a new development in Israel... turning into a state strategy.”

Tensions between Turkey and Israel soared dramatically following the onset of the genocidal war against the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, which has killed more than 72,000 people and injured tens of thousands more.

The dispute further escalated and entered a new phase over the weekend after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned his US counterpart Donald Trump of "possible provocations and sabotage" that couldFidan-Israel-cannot-live-without-an-enemy-and-seeks-to-declare-Turkey-as-one threaten the fragile ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington.

On April 11, Netanyahu said Israel would continue to confront Iran and its regional allies.

The United States and Israel initiated a large-scale, illegal and unprovoked war against Iran on February 28, assassinating Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking commanders.

Iran’s response has been decisive.

The Iranian Armed Forces have carried out over 100 waves of missile and drone operations against US interests across West Asia and Israeli positions in the occupied territories.
