Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Iran has entered negotiations with the United States “with open eyes,” stressing that Islamic Republic will not retreat from its rights.
Araghchi made the remarks in an X post on Friday in Oman, where he was set to hold talks with US negotiators aimed at achieving a just understanding regarding Iran’s nuclear issue.
“Iran enters diplomacy with open eyes and a steady memory of the past year,” he said, adding, “We engage in good faith and stand firm on our rights.”
The top Iranian diplomat further described “equal standing, mutual respect and mutual interest” as the “pillars of a durable agreement” that requires commitment from both sides.

We engage in good faith and stand firm on our rights.
Commitments need to be honored. Equal standing, mutual respect and mutual interest are not rhetoric—they are a must and the pillars of a durable…
Araghchi arrived in the Omani capital of Muscat early on Friday, heading a delegation that includes his deputies Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Hamid Qanbari, as well as Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei.
Meanwhile, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner lead the US delegation for the talks.
Earlier, Baghaei said in an X post that the diplomatic engagement is being conducted “with strength and with the objective of achieving a fair, mutually satisfactory and dignified agreement.”
The nuclear negotiations would begin later in the day as the US military build-up in West Asia and bellicose threats against Iran endanger regional security.
Tehran sits at the negotiating table while keeping in mind the bitter experience of five rounds of indirect talks with Washington that ultimately stopped by last year’s illegal US-Israeli aggression against Iran.
Israel launched the unprovoked war on June 13, 2025 before the sixth round of the indirect Iran-US nuclear negotiations in Muscat. The US also joined the terrorist assault by striking Iranian nuclear sites.
On June 24, Iran, through its successful retaliatory operations against both the Israeli regime and the US, managed to impose a halt to the unlawful aggression that killed at least 1,064 people in the country.
