Iran slams German stance

Iran’s foreign minister says nuclear talks with the United States will go ahead as planned, and are scheduled to be held on Friday in Oman’s capital. In a social media post, Abbas Araghchi said negotiations will be held at around 10 o’clock in the morning in Muscat. He thanked Omani officials for making the necessary arrangements for the nuclear talks. Araghchi’s statement came after some US media outlets claimed that negotiations were canceled due to disagreements between the two sides. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian approved talks with Washington on Tuesday. Tehran said it will negotiate only on its nuclear program, and that the United States must withdraw its unreasonable demands for talks to resume. The previous round of nuclear negotiations stalled in June after Israel and the United States launched strikes on Iran amid the talks.

'West Bank displacement worsening'

The UN warns of a growing humanitarian crisis in the occupied West Bank, with hundreds of Palestinians displaced amid rising settler attacks and expanded Israeli military presence. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs says at least 700 Palestinians from nine West Bank communities have been forced from their homes this year after repeated settler attacks. The agency says Israeli military operations are widening beyond traditional northern flashpoints into other parts of the occupied West Bank. The displacement comes against the backdrop of intensified Israeli military raids and a surge in settler violence. According to UN reports, over 4000 Palestinians have been displaced across west bank since October 2023.

New start treaty expires

Reactions are pouring in from around the world as the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between Russia and the United States has officially expired.  Moscow described the expiration of the New start treaty as a negative development while stating that Russia will maintain a responsible approach to strategic stability. The Kremlin spokesman said Russia proposed that both sides voluntarily extend the terms of the agreement for one year to allow time to negotiate a successor treaty; a proposal Moscow said the United States never formally responded to. Dmitry Peskov added that the issue was also raised during a phone call between the Russian and Chinese presidents.
