Iran-E3 nuclear talks

Negotiations between Iran and the European Troika over Tehran’s nuclear program have kicked off in the Turkish city of Istanbul. Participants are deputy foreign ministers from Iran as well as the UK, France and Germany, which are three Western parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the JCPOA, signed in 2015. According to Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, the talks serve as a litmus test for Europe’s realism when it comes to Tehran’s nuclear program. Esmail Baqaei has also said the European Troika doesn’t have the jurisdiction to use the JCPOA’s snapback mechanism that would re-impose UN sanctions against Iran if it gets activated. That’s because, according to Baqaei, the trio have repeatedly violated their commitments under the 2015 deal. The Islamic Republic has also said a number of times that it won’t back down on its right to enrich uranium.

Iran space program

Iran has successfully sent into orbit a domestically-built telecommunications satellite, named Nahid-2. The satellite was launched aboard a Soyuz rocket from Russia’s Vostochny Cosmodrome. The Nahid-2 satellite, developed by the Iranian Space Agency, is designed to remain in orbit for five years. The launch highlights Iran's progress in space exploration. It also illustrates the ongoing collaboration with Russia in the field of space technology.

US-Israel Gaza genocide

Gaza is still reeling from Israeli bombardments, with fresh attacks leaving more casualties in the Palestinian territory. Two people were killed, and several others were injured following airstrikes targeting shelters housing the displaced in Gaza City and Khan Yunis. The new victims come as Israeli attacks claimed the lives of over 60 people on Thursday. In addition to casualties caused by incessant attacks, hunger keeps taking lives, too. According to Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, a child has died as a result of severe malnutrition. The US-Israeli genocide began in October 2023. The death toll since then has topped 59,500. Nearly 143,500 others have been injured so far.
