The speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives says Iran clinched a remarkable victory in the face of the Israeli regime's recent aggression, which was supported by the United States.
Iran’s victory has turned into a great achievement in regional conflicts, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani said in a meeting with a delegation of members of the Iranian Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy in Baghdad, IRNA reported on Monday.
He strongly condemned Israel’s use of Iraqi airspace to carry out acts of aggression against Iran, adding that the move violated his country’s national sovereignty and crossed its red lines.
On June 13, Israel launched a blatant and unprovoked act of aggression against Iran, assassinating many high-ranking military commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary civilians.
More than a week later, the United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites in a grave violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces targeted strategic sites across the occupied territories as well as the al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.
On June 24, Iran, through its successful retaliatory operations against both the Israeli regime and the US, managed to impose a halt to the illegal assault.
Pointing to various aspects of the 12-day war against Iran, he emphasized that Tehran and Baghdad should reinforce solidarity as both Iran and Iraq were affected by the recent developments.
Mashhadani noted that Iran and Iraq have common policies and interests, reiterating his country’s support for the Islamic Republic in case of any aggression.
Iraq respects Iran as it helped Baghdad defeat the Daesh terrorist group in line with the principles of good neighborliness, the Iraqi parliamentarian said.
He also stressed the importance of promoting cooperation among Muslim countries and creating effective solidarity in the Muslim world.
