London protesters condemn renewed carnage in Gaza

Pro-Palestinian supporters take part in a demonstration in central London. January 19, 2025.

Outraged by the harrowing images of renewed carnage in Gaza perpetrated by the Israeli military, protesters have come out in their hundreds to assure the Palestinians that they are not alone.

My heart goes out to you. I cry for you. We stand for you, and we will continue to stand for you.

London stands with them. The people in the UK stand with them. We certainly don't stand with our government that's propping up this genocide.

In full view of the world, the new massacre of more than 400 Palestinians follows weeks of a lull in the Western-backed genocidal war and Israel's enforcement of a total aid blockade on Gaza for more than two weeks, raising concerns over the humanitarian crisis in the enclave.

As a Palestinian, I feel devastated that this is happening to Palestinians in the holy month of Ramadan. People are starving, and this is a war on children and women.

Israel, quite rightly, must defend its own security.

David Lammy, British Foreign Secretary

As public pressure grows, the UK government's support for the Israeli regime remains ironclad, even as it admits the regime is in breach of international law.

My message to the British government, and all of the Western governments, is have a look at what your people are demanding. They are demanding a real ceasefire, and you can make Israel abide to [sic] a ceasefire.

The Israelis cannot act without the diplomatic support that you're giving them. ... They can't carry on killing thousands of people without the guns, and the weapons, and the jet bombers, which you are supplying them.

You can stop this bloodshed, and you need to do it now.

Support for Israel extends beyond politicians. The mainstream media in the UK is also involved, typically casting doubt on casualty numbers announced by the health ministry in Gaza.

As they gather here this evening, the protesters are telling us they're not going to allow the aspirations for freedom of the Palestinian people to be extinguished by a child, killing regime and that they're going to continue to remind the British government of its culpability in the worst crime of our time, the genocide in Gaza.
