Israeli captives, who have been released under a ceasefire agreement with Hamas, say Benjamin Netanyahu has to implement the truce deal “in full.”

A group of 56 freed captives warned Netanyahu that returning to war with Hamas "is life-threatening for those still left behind."

"Implement the agreement in full, in one single manoeuvre," they wrote in a letter posted on Instagram on Friday evening.

The first phase of the ceasefire that took effect in January ended on March 1 after the exchanges of Israeli captives for Palestinian prisoners.

While Israel has said it wants to extend the first phase until mid-April, Hamas has ruled out that approach and insisted on a transition to the second phase, which should lead to a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and a complete halt to its military campaign in the besieged territory.

The resistance group has also warned that Tel Aviv “bears responsibility” for the fate of Israeli captives.

Of the 251 captives taken by Hamas during the 2023 al-Aqsa Storm Operation against the occupied territories, 58 remain in Gaza. Israel says 34 of them are dead.

Hamas officials say a high-level Palestinian delegation is expected to hold talks with Egyptian officials on Saturday “to discuss the latest developments, assess progress in implementing the ceasefire agreement and address matters related to launching the second phase of the deal," one official told AFP.

The official said during the talks, the Hamas delegation will demand that Israel "implement the agreement, begin negotiations for the second phase and open the border crossings to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.”

Israel halted the entry of all humanitarian aid to Gaza on Sunday, shortly after the first phase of the ceasefire deal ended.
