The Iranian freestyle wrestling team has showcased a commanding performance at the Muhamet Malo International Cup in Tirana, Albania, securing four gold medals, one silver, and one bronze at the second United World Wrestling (UWW) ranking series tournament of 2025.
The tournament, held on February 26-27, featured top wrestlers from around the world.
Iran topped the team standings with 135 points, ahead of the United States (97 points) and Japan (93 points), reaffirming its dominance on the international stage.
Iranian wrestlers demonstrated technical superiority across multiple weight classes, with Ali Mo’meni (57kg) securing gold after an impressive 5-2 technical fall victory over Tajikistan’s Ayal Belolubsky in the final, and Rahman Amouzad (65kg) displaying complete control throughout the tournament by defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Tairbek Zhumashbek Uulu 5-0 to claim gold.
Kamran Ghasempour of the 92-kg weight class also continued his streak of dominance, overwhelming Russia’s Alan Bagayev 10-0 in the final, while Amir-Hossein Zare’ (125kg), a powerhouse in heavyweight wrestling, crushed Russia’s Zelimkhan Khizriev 10-0 in a flawless final match.
Meanwhile, Erfan Alizadeh (97kg) earned silver after battling past tough opponents. He, however, narrowly lost 3-2 to Japan’s Arash Yoshida in the final.
Younes Emami of the 74-kg class claimed bronze, bouncing back from a semifinal defeat to Albania’s Olympic bronze medalist Chermen Valiev by defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Orozbek Toktombetov 6-1.
The strong performance in Albania further cements Iran’s wrestling legacy as it prepares for upcoming international competitions and the 2025 World Wrestling Championships.
The triumph came on the heels of Iran’s recent victory in the UWW Greco-Roman ranking series tournament in Zagreb, Croatia, where the national team also claimed the championship title.
