Palestinian abductees released

The Israeli regime has released six-hundred-20 Palestinian abductees as part of the final exchange in the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. This, after the Hamas resistance movement handed over the remains of four dead Israeli captives. The released Palestinians include 151 abductees who were given life or long sentences, and 11 Palestinians abducted by Israeli forces from Gaza before October the 7th, 2023. They also include 445 men who were arrested after October the 7th, 2023, in addition to 24 women and children. The Palestinian abductees were originally set to be freed on Saturday, but Israel refrained from releasing them over what the regime called Hamas’ humiliating actions during captives’ release. Hamas condemned the decision as a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement, saying talks on a second phase would not be possible until the Palestinian abductees are released. At least, 62 Israeli captives are still held in Gaza, 35 of whom are believed to have been killed in the regime's airstrikes.

Gaza genocide aftermath

Israeli forces press ahead with their violent raids across the occupied West Bank, killing more Palestinian civilians, and destroying homes and infrastructure. In one of their latest incursions, the regime’s forces killed a Palestinian teenager in the city of Qalqilyah. The 16-year-old teen was shot in the head with live ammunition and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. In a separate incident, a Palestinian man succumbed to injuries he suffered two months ago after he was hit by a missile shrapnel during an Israeli drone strike near the Nur Shams refugee camp. The new fatalities came after the UN agency for Palestinian refugees warned of an alarming spillover of the Gaza genocide into the West Bank. UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said more than 50 Palestinians, including children, have been killed in Israeli incursions over the past five weeks. Highlighting the rising number of displaced families, especially in northern camps, he cautioned that the West Bank is turning into a battlefield, with ordinary civilians accounting for most casualties.

Israel West Bank incursions

Over 15 months of Israeli strikes have nearly obliterated Gaza's civilian infrastructure, leaving Palestinian youths without suitable spaces to study, rest, or engage in sports. Many of them once pursued their favorite sports, but now they find their old fields in ruins.
