Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has paid tribute to Hezbollah leaders Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine as heroes who remained loyal to their oath, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to the path they upheld.

He made the remarks in an X post on Sunday, hours before an official funeral ceremony for the late Hezbollah leaders in Beirut.

“The great Lebanese nation deserves to be proud of all its brave sons – especially these two great leaders – the heroes who remained true to their pledge and defended the honor of the nation until they were martyred for the sake of God,” he wrote. “We remain true to our pledge.”

Using US-supplied bunker-busting bombs, Israel assassinated Nasrallah, the longtime leader of Hezbollah, in an airstrike on southern Beirut in September 2024.

The following month, the criminal regime assassinated Safieddine, the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, in an attack on a Beirut suburb.

Hezbollah postponed funeral ceremonies for both leaders due to the possibility of Israeli strikes on the ceremony.

Qalibaf: Enemy has been driven out of Lebanon

Iran’s Parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on Sunday that the Israeli regime boasted that it would seize southern Lebanon, attack the country, and destroy it.

“Today, I am pleased that we have arrived in Beirut at a time when the people of Gaza have returned to their land,” Qalibaf said upon arriving in Beirut to attend the ceremony.

“Likewise, the Zionist regime has been driven out of southern Lebanon, and security has been established in Lebanon.”

Funeral ‘turning point’ for Islamic Ummah: Qalibaf

Earlier in the day, Qalibaf expressed hope that the funeral procession will be a “turning point for the greatness of the resistance front, the Islamic Ummah, and the Lebanese people.”

Speaking before leaving Tehran for Beirut, he said Nasrallah was the honor and pride of the Muslim community and was a unifying figure in the fight against Israeli genocide.

He pointed to his previous visit to Beirut four months ago amid Israeli crimes and the resilience of Lebanese and Palestinian people, as well as Hezbollah and Hamas resistance groups.

Lebanon suffered huge losses such as the martyrdom of Nasrallah, but security and stability have been restored to the country and the Israeli regime has been humiliated, he emphasized.

Resistance, Hezbollah still alive: Iran FM

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi traveled to Lebanon to take part in the funeral ceremony on behalf of the Iranian government and nation.

“The clear message of today’s funeral to the world is that the resistance is alive,” he told reporters upon arrival at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport.

“Hezbollah is faithful to its ideals and will continue the path of struggle, and God willing, the final victory will be achieved.”

‘Nasrallah presented new model of resistance’

Earlier on Sunday, the IRNA news agency published a special note written by Araghchi to commemorate the martyred Hezbollah chiefs.

“Today, the enemies of the resistance may think that with the loss of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, his path has been stopped. However, as always, they have made miscalculations in recognizing the facts,” he wrote.

“Nasrallah cannot be described simply as a military commander or a politician. He was a strategic thinker who presented a new model of resistance, which was transformed from a military tactic into an intellectual, social and political system. Nasrallah’s legacy goes beyond the battles on the field and lies in his profound vision for the future of resistance and regional independence.”
