‘Colonial powers’ have no right to determine fate of Palestine: Qalibaf

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has warned that the United States and Israel are plotting against West Asia, saying no “colonial power” has the right to determine the fate of Palestine.

“Unfortunately, in recent months, we have seen that the Zionists and the US have not remained idle after their military and strategic failure in Lebanon and Gaza and are hatching other political conspiracies in the region,” Qalibaf said at the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, on Wednesday.

Qalibaf said the recent “delusive” remarks made by US President Donald Trump on the US “takeover” of Gaza and the forced displacement of Palestinians is “yet another indication of the continuation of colonial and hegemonic policies” and “an example of ignoring and violating the rights of the oppressed Palestinian people.”

Qalibaf warned that Trump’s plan, which he described as “a form of ethnic cleansing, modern occupation and apartheid,” would exacerbate the already “fragile” security situation in the region, leading to further challenges and crises.

“The future of Palestine will not be determined by the US or any other colonial power. The right to decide its fate belongs solely to the Palestinian nation,” he stated.

The official also urged free people across the world, independent states and international organizations, including the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, to “support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in both speech and action against this new conspiracy.”

Qalibaf said the only solution to the crisis in the region is a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, a full Israeli military withdrawal from Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, the unconditioned return of Palestinians to their homes, and the immediate and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Trump, speaking at the White House alongside Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said earlier this month that the United States would take over the Gaza Strip and own it after displacing its 2.4 million residents to countries like Jordan and Egypt.

The controversial proposal faced fierce opposition globally, with Cairo and Amman strongly rejecting the blatant scheme.

In return, the Trump administration has warned of repercussions for Egypt and Jordan if they do not allow in the more than two million Gazans.

Trump’s provocative proposal came after the Israeli regime failed to realize its objectives in the war on the coastal sliver for over 15 months, during which the regime killed at least 48,297 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
