Gaza ceasefire deal

Three more Israeli captives in Gaza have been released under a ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and the Israeli regime. The three male captives were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Khan Yunis city. The captives have been identified as Russian-Israeli Alexander Troufanov, Argentinian-Israeli Yair Horn, and US-Israeli Sagui Dekel-Chen. They were released in exchange for 369 Palestinians held in Israeli jails. Shortly after the regime confirmed receiving its captives, buses carrying Palestinian prisoners left Ofer prison for Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, where thousands of Palestinians cheerfully welcomed them home. So far, 21 hostages and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners have been freed during the first phase of the deal.

Israel's West Bank atrocities

Tensions are escalating across the West Bank as Israeli forces conduct fresh raids in several areas of the occupied Palestinian territories. Israeli forces entered the Jenin refugee camp in the early hours of Saturday and clashed with Palestinian resistance fighters. Earlier, regime forces stormed a Palestinian home in the village of Kafr Ni'ma, west of Ramallah, causing significant damage to the property. On Friday, the Israeli military and settlers launched a new wave of attacks on the Nur Shams refugee camp, east of Tulkarm, resulting in the deaths of at least three Palestinians and injuring over a dozen others. Another Palestinian was killed during a raid by Israeli forces near Nablus. The occupied West Bank has seen a surge in Israeli raids since the Gaza ceasefire agreement took effect. Over 80 Palestinians have been killed across the occupied West Bank since the start of this year.

Brazil-US tariff war

Brazilian President Lula da Silva has pledged to retaliate if US steel tariffs proposed by President Donald Trump take effect. President Da Silva stated that Brazil sees no reason for a dispute with the US, but any action against the country will undoubtedly be met with reciprocal measures. Last week, US President Donald Trump ordered a 25-percent import tax on all steel and aluminum entering the US starting March 12. He also ended previous exemptions issued for allies including Canada and the EU. Trump said the measures are aimed at boosting domestic production. The US, as the main external market for Brazilian steel, imported 5.6 million tons of steel slabs only in 2024.
