On January 15, 2025, news of an imminent ceasefire between Hamas and the Zionist regime began to emerge, causing celebrations to erupt in Gaza and around the world.
Against some of the most horrific brutality experienced by human beings this century, the people of Gaza have survived dignified, heroic and in defiance.
The Zionist regime has failed to achieve its war objectives of defeating Hamas and rescuing their captives, despite inflicting 15 months of terror.
This ceasefire agreement assures the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, as well as the reopening of the Rafah crossing, allowing an influx of vital humanitarian aid.
The Zionist regime must also facilitate the entry of 600 aid trucks per day, in addition to 200,000 tents and 60,000 caravans so people can have immediate shelter.
Moreover, the agreement provides for the release of 1,000 Gazans, as well as the release of all women and children under the age of 19 from Zionist jails. In addition to other terms such as vacating Gaza's airspace for at least eight to 10 hours a day, all hospitals must be rehabilitated in Gaza.
The ceasefire agreement is a comprehensive defeat and humiliation for the Zionist regime, although it has come after a huge human cost.
While the true death toll is likely to become clearer in the coming weeks, it has been credibly estimated that at least 10% of Gaza's pre-war population have been exterminated.
It is important to note that the Zionists did not act alone in this barbarity.
Western governments allied with Israel from the beginning of its genocidal campaign, particularly the American, British, German, French and Canadian governments.
They have not only provided the Zionist regime with continual diplomatic cover, but have also provided them with a steady flow of arms to perpetrate their genocide against Palestinians.
Gaza practically stood alone against the whole world for material support. Gaza was only able to count on the Lebanese and Iraqi resistance, the Ansarullah of Yemen, and, the Islamic Republic of Iran.
A few other countries, such as South Africa, launched legal action against the genocidal regime, but too many countries, particularly neighboring Arab countries, either stood by and watched or actively supported Israel.
This ceasefire agreement is unlikely to be the end of the story. The Zionist regime notoriously breaks its ceasefire agreements and continues to engage in bombings and killings.
The new Trump regime also has extreme plans for West Asia, risking future war against Yemen and Iran in particular, which would have consequences across the region, particularly in Palestine.
So, while there is now some much needed relief for the people of Gaza, the wider war is far from over.
