Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Israel failed to achieve its 'malicious' objectives in the Gaza Strip despite waging a genocide against Palestinians over the past 15 months.
Araghchi made the remarks during a telephone conversation with his Yemeni counterpart, Jamal Ahmed Ali Amer, on Saturday night, hours before the implementation of a Gaza ceasefire deal between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas resistance.
The top Iranian diplomat said the truce is the result of the resilience of the people of Gaza and the support that the resistance front, including Yemenis, provided for the oppressed Palestinians.
"After 15 months of crimes and genocide, the Zionist regime failed in achieving its malicious goals and was compelled to surrender to the will of the patient and resilient Palestinian people," he added.
Araghchi also described as beneficial and effective his recent talks with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg in Tehran, reaffirming Iran's continued support for the Yemeni government and nation.
The Yemeni foreign minister, for his part, welcomed the imposition of a ceasefire on the Zionist regime, saying Sana'a is monitoring the implementation of the agreement.
He further noted that Yemen's future actions in support of the Palestinian people depend on Israel’s commitment to the truce and the complete halt in the genocide against Palestinians.
Additionally, Amer briefed Araghchi on the latest developments in Yemen and appreciated the Islamic Republic's political and moral support for his government and people in the face of the enemies’ acts of aggression.
Israel unleashed its brutal Gaza onslaught on October 7, 2023, after Hamas carried out a historic operation against the occupying entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.
However, the Tel Aviv regime failed to achieve its declared objectives of freeing captives and eliminating Hamas despite killing nearly 47,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, in Gaza.
Earlier this week, Israel was forced to accept the ceasefire, which consists of three phases, each lasting 42 days.
The first phase will see the release of some 1,900 Palestinian abductees in exchange for 33 Israeli captives held in Gaza. It also requires Israeli occupation forces to begin withdrawing from the Philadelphi corridor - also known as the Salah al-Din axis - on the Gaza-Egypt border.
Yemen launched a campaign in solidarity with Gaza, conducting strikes against targets in the occupied lands and targeting ships linked to Israel.
