A senior official with Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force says the elite force has eliminated four terrorists affiliated with the Israeli regime and captured seven others over the past 48 hours during an ongoing major counterterrorism exercise in the southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province close to the border with Pakistan.
General Ahmad Shafaei, spokesman for the “Martyrs of Security” drills, said five more militants also turned themselves in to law enforcement forces during the mentioned period.
He added that elite Saberin units, IRGC Special Forces, commando and electronic warfare units, together with volunteer forces and divisions of the provincial law enforcement and intelligence forces are participating in the drills.
“Martyrs of Security drill is being conducted in pre-determined regions and is meant to bolster and foster sustainable security. Commanders and servicemen from the IRGC Ground Force's Quds Base are utterly resolved to continue their operations until the goals of the exercise are fully realized,” Shafaei pointed out.
On October 26, ten members of Iran's law enforcement forces were killed in a terrorist attack in the Gohar Kuh district of Taftan in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
The so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assault, which was one of the deadliest in the province in recent months.
The group has carried out numerous terrorist attacks in Iran, primarily in the Sistan and Baluchestan.
Its tactics include the abduction of border guards as well as targeting civilians and police stations within the province to incite chaos and disorder.
In January, Iran launched a military operation during which the headquarters of the Pakistan-based terrorist group was targeted in missile strikes, destroying its infrastructure.
