Hezbollah retaliation

Hezbollah has carried out fresh retaliatory operations against Israeli military targets, deep inside the occupied territories. In one of the operations, the group targeted the Shraga military base north of the occupied city of Akka with a rocket barrage. Hezbollah also targeted the Tel Nof air base, south of Tel Aviv, with missiles. The resistance movement said it targeted Israel’s HaHotrim base for the first time with rockets. The Yokneam Illit factory, southeast of Haifa, was also hit for the first time. The group also targeted several gatherings of Israeli forces in a number of settlements. Hezbollah has managed to inflict heavy losses on Israel since the regime began its aggression against Lebanon in October 2023. The group has so far destroyed over 40 Merkava tanks, several military bulldozers and armored vehicles. More than 100 Israeli soldiers have so far been killed and over one-thousand others injured by Hezbollah fighters since then.

Israeli crimes in Gaza

A top UN official condemns the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing Israeli violations against Palestinians as acts reminiscent of the gravest international crimes. Joyce Msuya made the statement at a UN Security Council meeting on Palestine. She condemned the Israeli military’s recent escalations in Gaza’s north, noting that civilians have been "driven” from their homes and often forced to witness the deaths of their family members. The UN official raised alarm over the Israeli Knesset's recent bill which aims to ban the activities of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees or UNRWA. She urged UN member states to use diplomatic and economic pressure to prevent further suffering of the Palestinian people. The Security Council meeting came after a recent UN-backed report warned of an imminent and substantial likelihood of famine in the blockaded Palestinian territory.

US failed policy

Iran’s foreign minister has warned the US against resumption of its so-called maximum pressure campaign against Tehran, stressing Washington’s previous attempts to oppress Iran have only failed. Writing on his X account, Abbas Araqchi said the first version of Maximum Pressure was met with Maximum Resistance from Tehran, resulting in Washington’s Maximum Defeat. He pointed to Iran’s advances in its peaceful nuclear program after the US imposed unilateral sanctions back in 2018. He instead called for a maximum wisdom policy which he said would benefit everyone. The warning comes following reports that the US President-elect Donald Trump is considering imposing further sanctions on Tehran after taking office in January. Back in 2018 and during his first term, Trump launched what he called a maximum pressure campaign against Iran, after unilaterally withdrawing from an international agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
