A senior Iranian diplomat has strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s persistent attacks on Syria, saying the aggression poses a serious threat to peace and stability in the West Asia region.

Ali Asghar Khaji, a senior aide on political affairs to Iran's foreign minister, made the remarks in a meeting with Geir Pedersen, the United Nations' special envoy for Syria, on the sidelines of the 22nd round of the Astana talks on Syria in the Kazakh capital city of Astana on Tuesday.

The top Iranian diplomat further reiterated Iran’s readiness to help establish peace and stability in Syria, as the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region in light of the aggressive actions of the Israeli regime.

He also emphasized the need for a responsible and active approach by the United Nations and its relevant organizations, especially the Security Council, to stop the Israeli regime’s crimes.

Khaji further called for the mobilization of all international facilities to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza and Lebanon.

Pedersen, for his part, expressed regret for the continuation and escalation of tensions in the region.

He also emphasized the need for providing funds to help the Syrian and Lebanese refugees, as well as the advancement of political processes in Syria, including the holding of the Syrian Constitutional Committee meetings.

The Israeli regime has been conducting genocide in Gaza for over a year, killing more than 43,600 Palestinians, mostly women and children. The regime has recently expanded its military aggression to Lebanon, causing numerous fatalities in the Arab country.

Israel has also conducted repeated attacks on Syria and others in the region as part of its escalated campaign of violence.

Initiated in 2017, the Astana format is a series of negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in Syria.

It involves Russia, Iran, and Turkey as guarantor countries, alongside representatives from the Syrian government and opposition, the United Nations, and observer nations such as Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq.

The Astana process has been instrumental in facilitating dialogue among key stakeholders in the war on Syria, focusing on de-escalation zones, humanitarian aid, and political solutions.
