The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has been interrupted by captives' families while making a speech in the occupied city of al-Quds.
Netanyahu was at a ceremony remembering those settlers who were killed in al-Aqsa Flood Operation by Palestinian resistance groups inside the occupied territories last year.
Netanyahu stood motionless at a podium during the ceremony on Sunday as audience members in the crowd shouted, interrupting him for more than a minute.
Some people shouted “Shame on you” and made a commotion, forcing Netanyahu to stop his speech shortly after it began.
One of the protesters repeatedly shouted, “My father was killed.”
Israeli media reports said the commemoration was initially not meant to include speeches by family members, fearing they would criticize Netanyahu and his far-right hawkish cabinet members.
Public and diplomatic pressure has been mounting on the Netanyahu regime to do more to strike a deal for securing the release of captives still held in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu has been obstructing mediation for a truce and a deal to release the 97 captives still held by Palestinian groups in Gaza. The Israeli military says 34 of them are dead.
Netanyahu has rejected a series of ceasefire proposals, including one from the US administration in May.
The Palestinian resistance groups have been seeking an end to the year-long Israeli aggression and withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Backed by the United States to the hilt, Israel keeps massacring Palestinians in Gaza. Since October 2023, it has killed close to 43,000 Palestinians. More than 100,000 are injured and in need of treatment which is tough to receive.
