Israeli forces have bombed a refugee camp in northern Gaza, killing at least 33 people including women and children.

The Government Media Office on Friday confirmed the 33 deaths and said 21 of those killed were women when the Israeli army bombed the Jabalia refugee camp.

The Palestinian news agency said that more than 70 others were also wounded.

Dr Mohamad Salha said the majority of the injured were women and children, who were being treated at the hospital but that there are many still trapped under the rubble.

He added that the operating theatre at the hospital has been overwhelmed, especially since many of the injuries, which include burns and abdominal wounds, require complicated treatment.

Salha said that the Israeli military has issued the staff at the hospital evacuation orders but that they will not leave those who are in desperate need of treatment in the north of the Gaza Strip.

Other Israeli strikes killed at least 39 Palestinians across Gaza on Friday, 20 of them in Jabalia, the Gaza health ministry said.

Residents of Jabalia said Israeli tanks had reached the heart of the camp after pushing through suburbs and residential districts.

Israel’s brutal attacks came after the occupation forces killed Yahya Sinwar, leader of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, on Thursday.

Sinwar was martyred in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza's Rafah city on Thursday. Hamas confirmed the assassination news on Friday which was first broke by the Israeli military on Thursday.

Israel launched a genocidal war against the people in Gaze on October 7, 20023.

So far, Israel has killed over 42,520 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured more than 99,500 others in Gaza.
