Iran Air passengers asked to avoid pagers, walkie-talkies on Beirut flights

Iran Air asks passengers to avoid carrying pagers and handheld radios on flights to Beirut.

Iran’s flag carrier airline the Iran Air has urged passengers of its flights between Tehran and the Lebanese capital Beirut to avoid carrying pagers and handheld radios.

The Iran Air said on Saturday that passengers of flights to and from Beirut are advised to avoid the devices during the flight.

The call came a day after Lebanese aviation authorities said they had banned pagers and walkie-talkies from being taken on flights from Beirut airport until further notice.

A ban was also imposed on shipment of such devices by air.

It came days after thousands of pagers exploded in Lebanon, leading to injuries for members of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah and other people. The explosions were followed by a similar incident for people using handheld radios.

The Israeli regime, which has been trading fire with Hezbollah for the past year, has been blamed for the explosions that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hezbollah has vowed to respond to the attacks which killed 37 people and injured 3,000 more, including Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon.

The group has announced that the attacks crossed a major red line in nearly a year of confrontation with Israel which began after the start of the Israeli war on Gaza in early October.
