Iran condemns Israel’s latest terrorist strike in Lebanon

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Naser Kan’ani

Iran has strongly condemned Israel’s latest terrorist attack on a residential building in a densely populated area in Beirut, which resulted in the killing and wounding of many people, including women and children.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani said on Friday that the brutal air attack of the Zionist regime on Beirut is a gross violation of international law and the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He also called on the international community to condemn it in the strongest terms.

Kan’ani added that there is no doubt that the Zionist regime is seeking to intensify and expand war and conflict in the region.

He called it a malicious policy which is a clear and maximum threat to international peace and security.

The spokesman reiterated the firm support and solidarity of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the nation, government and resistance movements of Lebanon.

“Despite the recent barbaric attacks of the Zionists, the government, people and resistance of Lebanon, have not stopped their honorable support for the defenseless and oppressed people of Palestine,” Kan’ani said.

He expressed hope that the countries and governments that support international peace and security will use the opportunity to sit in front of the United Nations General Assembly and “take decisive measures to stop the Zionist regime's mass killing machine against the oppressed Palestinian nation and other countries in the region including Lebanon and Syria.”

The death toll from Israel’s airstrike on southern Beirut rose to 14, including children.

Hezbollah confirmed that one of its top commanders Ibrahim Aqil was killed in the Israeli attack.

According to Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA), five children were among the fatalities.

Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network said a drone fired several missiles against Beirut’s heavily populated Dahiyeh suburb. The NNA, meanwhile, said an F35 jet targeted residential areas with two strikes.
