Former Iranian acting foreign minister Ali Bagheri Kani has been appointed as secretary of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations.
The appointment was made on Saturday upon a decree by Kamal Kharrazi, the head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations.
Bagheri Kani succeeded Abbas Araqchi, the current Iranian Foreign Minister. During a ceremony, Araqchi was appreciated for his great efforts during his tenure.
In a decree on August 31, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei appointed Bagheri Kani as a member of the council. Meanwhile, Araqchi also on Monday appointed the former acting foreign minister as his advisor.
Bagheri Kani became Iran’s interim foreign minister after his predecessor Hossein Amir-Abdollahian died in a tragic helicopter crash along with President Ebrahim Raeisi and six others on May 19.
