In a disturbing video released by the Israeli B’Tselem center for Palestinian human rights, an Israeli settler in the occupied West Bank explicitly threatens a Palestinian man with rape.

In the video clip, the masked settler on horseback arrives at the Khirbet Wadi a-Rakhim community in the South Hebron Hills with a herd of around 20 cows, letting the cattle graze in a barley field belonging to a Palestinian family near the community homes.

The video, captured on August 4, shows the settler, accompanied by three others, cursing the Palestinian man and his wife, claiming that the land, the house, and the nearby well are theirs.

One of the settlers, three of whom carried clubs, approaches and follows the Palestinian man as he verbally harasses the owner of the house, saying that he wishes he would meet the Palestinian man in the military detention facility Sde Teiman. He then threatens the Palestinian man with rape in that prison.

This is a reference to the sexual assaults carried out by Israeli soldiers in the Sde Teiman camp against Palestinian prisoners last month.

The three settlers who arrived by car left after about two hours, while the settler on horseback continued to graze his herd on the field for about an hour, B’Tselem added in its report.

Israeli facilities hold an estimated 9,700 Palestinian prisoners. Inmates have always reported being subjected to torture and sexual abuse.
