Lebanese mourn children killed in Israel's strike on Beirut
Hundreds of mourners have gathered in southern Beirut for the funeral procession of two children killed in the July 30 Israeli airstrike on the Lebanese capital.
According to Lebanon's Health Ministry, Israel’s raid on an overcrowded residential area in the Beirut suburb killed siblings Amira and Hassan Fadlallah as well as two women and injured dozens of civilians,
Mourners on Wednesday were carrying photographs of the two dead siblings, while chanting slogans against the Israeli regime and its staunch backer the United States – "death to Israel" and "America is the Great Satan.”
One mourner told AFP, "Every mother now is thinking: I could lose my children at any moment because the Israelis have a license to kill.”
Lebanese Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said the area struck was meters away from one of the largest hospitals in the country.
“This criminal act” he said, “is a link in a series of aggressive operations that are claiming civilians in a clear and frank violation of International law.”
Israel already stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for having killed more than 39,400 Palestinians, including at least to 15,000 children in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.
