Israel assassinates former bodyguard of Hezbollah chief

Yasser Nimer Qarbash was formerly the bodyguard of Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. Israel assassinated him on Tuesday.

The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah says the former bodyguard of Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has been assassinated in an Israeli airstrike near the Syria-Lebanon border.

In a statement on Tuesday, Hezbollah said Yasser Nimer Qarbash was killed in an Israeli airstrike. It did not provide further details.

The statement came hours after an Israeli drone strike hit a car in Syria near the Lebanese border as reported by the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and pro-Damascus radio Sham FM.

According to the UK-based war monitor, two members of Hezbollah in the vehicle lost their lives in the strike, while a Syrian driver was critically wounded.

Israel has repeatedly launched attacks on southern Lebanon since October 7, after it launched its barbarous campaign in Gaza.

As a retaliatory measure, Hezbollah has been carrying out almost daily rocket attacks on Israeli positions.

Since October, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have resulted in the death of more than 450 individuals, predominantly Hezbollah fighters. However, among the casualties are also over 80 civilians and non-combatants, according to a tally by the Associated Press.

Two Israeli wars waged against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006 were met with strong resistance from Hezbollah, resulting in the retreat of the regime in both conflicts.
